Campaign: Meghan Markle Rebrand ‘As Ever’ (branding failure)
Campaign: Meghan Markle’s Re-Brand - As Ever
Objective:
Rebrand Meghan’s lifestyle brand “As Ever”.
”Just after Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, unveiled her newly rebranded lifestyle brand, ‘As Ever,’ she found herself at the center of a legal dispute. Officials from the Spanish town of Porreres, Mallorca, have accused her of copying their historic coat of arms for her brand’s logo.
The emblem, which has represented the town since the 13th century, features a palm tree flanked by two birds—an image resembling As Ever’s design. While Porreres’ coat of arms is brightly colored with green and orange hues for the tree and black for the birds, Markle’s version is a sleek, minimalist take in dark gray and white. Despite the stylistic differences, the similarities have raised concerns among town officials, who are now weighing legal action.”
Her statement about her the brand “mishap” “Navigating trademark issues with American Riviera Orchard: “There are tons of twists and turns — even with the name. I was figuring it out in real time. I appreciate everyone who gave me the grace to make mistakes and figure it out and also to be forgiving with myself through that. It’s a learning curve.”
I’m sorry, twists and turns? Girl, please. You got caught ripping off your logo and are now asking for grace, and it’s a learning curve. I could scream.
Why it doesn’t work:
Don’t steal logos - EVER
Don’t steal logos - Hire a graphic designer
Don’t steal logos - Don’t be lazy
